Gabrielle Wong is a junior at Manhattanville majoring in Communications with a minor in English. Originally from Rochester, N.Y, Gabrielle decided to apply to Manhattanville after a college representative came to visit her high school. “I liked the fact that the college is located in a quiet area, but is close enough to NYC to allow me to take advantage of the opportunities there,” she said.
One of these opportunities is an internship that Gabrielle is taking part in at Three on the Tree Productions, a small production company in Manhattan that produces live music DVDs and music videos. “I’d like to work in the entertainment industry eventually, either working on the production side of things, or editing or directing,” she said. This is the reason I decided to major in Communications.”
Although her studies, internship work, and participation in The Black Student Union give Gabrielle a busy schedule, she still makes time to volunteer with the college’s Duchesne Center for Social Justice. “During the last spring semester, I went to New Orleans with the Duchesne Center for one week with about twelve other students and we helped to rebuild homes that were lost during the last few terrible hurricanes that have hit the region. I was drawn to volunteer with this particular activity because Hurricane Katrina was so devastating to the people that live there, and to me it seemed like people not affected by these hurricanes tend to forget that people in these areas still need help. I wanted to be a part of an organization that works for positive changes. It is extremely important to me to step outside myself and see the big picture in the world. I also enjoyed learning about the culture and the people during the trip. I am looking forward to joining another Duchesne Center group like this one next spring.”
