Manhattanville student and Y Not News anchor and entertainment reporter Shadae Hicks made her first T.V. appearance when she was fourteen years old. Working with her mother, Shadae developed an idea for hosting a weekly music video show that would also feature current events in her hometown of Middleton, Delaware. A local television station quickly picked up “Clips Music Video Show”. “My favorite part of doing the show was getting to interview different people,” she said, “and that’s why I was excited to learn about the Y Not News program when I came to Manhattanville.”
Manhattanville College was at the top of Shadae’s list when it came time to start applying. “There are more opportunities in broadcasting in this area. I also liked how the Office of Career Services is really focused on getting students good internship positions. I would really like to intern at MTV one day.”
When told that she was the first freshman to anchor Y Not news, she was excited about how this would look on her resume, but more importantly “that will make my mom so happy!” she said. She also enjoys her role as entertainment reporter for the program. Look for her coverage of “Manhattanville’s Monthly 5” which covers entertainment on and off campus and which Shadae compares to the Entertainment Channel’s “Daily 10.”
Shadae also does behind the scenes work for Y Not News as well, mostly film editing, which she learned about in Intro to TV and Broadcasting. She plans to choose a major in Communications and Broadcasting with a minor in Legal Studies. Y Not News produces about five to six episodes per semester and is open to all students.
