Why Should I Take a Math Course
Reasons Why You May Need to Take Math at Manhattanville College
There are certain majors that require math. These are:
- Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Pre-Med, Pre-Health, Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health Program, Chemistry & Biochemistry.
- Students who are accepted into any Teacher Education program at Manhattanville are required to have a math course to satisfy teacher certification requirements.
- A math course is recommended for the for the following majors: Economics, Finance, Management & Psychology. Although a course offered by the math department is not necessarily required for these majors, math-related courses offered in these departments are required for these majors. It is often a good idea to take a math course prior to taking any math-related courses, such as Statistics for the Social Sciences, etc., in order to sharpen math skills.
- In order to satisfy distribution requirements in place at Manhattanville College, students must complete a minimum of 6 credits in 4 out of 5 areas, as stated in the course catalog. One of the areas to choose from is “Mathematics and Science” (including Computer Science.) Therefore, math courses could be used to satisfy this requirement if this area is chosen.
- Mathematics is also offered as a second area at Manhattanville. Two approved courses beyond the Calculus II level would constitute a second area of strength in mathematics.
