Staff & Faculty Collaboration

Welcome Staff & Faculty!

At the CCD we believe that career planning is an integral part of a student’s education at Manhattanville College. As faculty and staff, you can directly help build a bridge between the classroom and career development through your support, encouragement and establishing a connection to the services and staff at the CCD. Together, we can help students build upon their classroom learning through internships, jobs and other career exploration experiences. Please refer to our updated News and Events listed on our homepage.

The career planning process unfolds during the college. We encourage students, as freshmen, to actively explore the range of campus activities, programs, services and resources that will help them eventually develop a career plan they can implement after graduation.  Please take a look at the CCD’s Developing Your 4-Year Action Plan, which begins freshman year.

Here are some career resources that you can encourage your students to take advantage of:

  • eRecruiting.  By logging onto eRecruiting with an Mville user ID and password, students can access jobs, internships and career resources using this one-stop online database.
  • Student Employees. Departments wishing to hire student employees can post their positions through the Center for Career Development.  Please visit our Campus Job Posting and Hiring Procedures page for more information and easy campus job posting.
  • Career Fields Identified for Specified Majors.  Help students learn about careers that are popular for specific college majors.
  • Networking Opportunities. Introducing students to alumni and other professionals who currently work in their field of interest can help students explore careers and gain a better understanding of a career track.  It may also open doors to internships, jobs and mentoring.
  • Letters of Recommendation. Help your students with their job search and graduate school applications by emphasizing the importance of building strong relationships with faculty members and staff.  View our Tips for Writing a Letter of Recommendation to maximize your letter’s impact.
  • Academic Credit for Internships. If you are advising a student’s internship (with the consent of your Department Chair) you should discuss an academic project with your student and sign his/her Learning Agreement and Registration Form in the beginning of the semester.  At the end of the semester you will receive Evaluation Forms that are considered in the grading process, along with academic work submitted during the semester.  Department Chairs please submit a new or updated Department Policies and Reports form to keep us updated.  Complete information about the program, including new deadlines, can be found on our Internships for Academic Credit page.

CCD is also here to augment and assist you in providing career development information that is pertinent to your specific discipline, class or program.  We offer the following career services to faculty and staff:

  • Classroom presentations and workshops led by a career counselor on topics including:  careers for students targeting specific disciplines, resume and cover letter writing, internships, graduate school resources, career exploration and networking skills
  • Professional guest speakers in industries related to your course or program to discuss specific career fields and what it takes to succeed
  • Career panels and campus events providing information to students with specific majors

To arrange for a career speaker or presentation, please contact Rosalie Shemmer, Director of the CCD, at shemmerr@mville.edu.
