Leadership Forum on Succession Planning

Thursday, March 4, 2010, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. (light dinner at 5:30)
Manhattanville College, Reid Castle, West Room
$20.00 per person/$15 per person for teams of three or more

The Educational Leadership Consortium of Manhattanville College’s School of Education offers this forum to assist school leaders in their efforts to build leadership capacity and plan for succession.

Regional districts are facing large numbers of retirements and departures, leaving a void in their leadership and presenting real staffing challenges. This forum will feature a panel that will share the successes and opportunities of strong succession planning, and the steps panel members have taken to establish long-range plans.

Facilitated discussions will help districts come to a fuller conception of their succession plans, while simultaneously identifying areas that need more attention. School district teams of administrators are encouraged to participate.

Call Dr. Kathy Rockwood at 914.323.3149 or email her at rockwoodk@mville.edu if you have any questions. A wiki ( http://growleadership.wikispaces.com ) will be developed for collaboration and sharing of materials.

The Educational Leadership curricula are responsive to current research and thinking about leadership preparation.  Our program prepares future educational leaders who will act as change agents as they address the challenges confronting schools today.  The overall goal is to prepare ethically and socially responsible school leaders of a caring learning community who will promote teaching and learning excellence. Toward that end we seek to develop the following leadership domains of competence among our leadership candidates:

1) Sensitivity to diversity considerations in decision making & planning

2) Acquisition of a solid knowledge base related to the leader’s role in supporting teaching and learning

3) Demonstration of a repertoire of effective communication skills

4) Involvement of the broader community as educational partners

5)  Demonstration of professionalism and ethical behavior

6) Orientation toward a consistent, student-centered focus
