New! Teacher Leader Certificate of Advanced Studies  The Teacher Leaders program targets teachers who assume a variety of informal or formally designated leadership roles in their schools. The 15-credit Certificate of Advanced Studies concentrates on specific skills and knowledge that are essential to teacher leaders’ overall effectiveness. This is a cohort-based program. A new cohort was formed during the fall of 2009. The program brochure provides course highlights and admission criteria.

The Educational Leadership curricula are responsive to current research and thinking about leadership preparation.  Our program prepares future educational leaders who will act as change agents as they address the challenges confronting schools today.  The overall goal is to prepare ethically and socially responsible school leaders of a caring learning community who will promote teaching and learning excellence. Toward that end we seek to develop the following leadership domains of competence among our leadership candidates:

1) Sensitivity to diversity considerations in decision making & planning

2) Acquisition of a solid knowledge base related to the leader’s role in supporting teaching and learning

3) Demonstration of a repertoire of effective communication skills

4) Involvement of the broader community as educational partners

5)  Demonstration of professionalism and ethical behavior

6) Orientation toward a consistent, student-centered focus
