Jennifer Alpert
MSBM 5004 – Sport Marketing

With over 13 years of experience in sports marketing promotions and events management, Ms. Alpert currently manages a variety of special events for a variety of tri-state area non-profit organizations including the John Starks Foundation.  Ms. Alpert's sports business career has included overseeing the day to day operations of a minor league sports team franchise and providing marketing and community relations consulting services to an NBA franchise. Ms. Alpert's professional career in sports began with the New York Knicks, where she reported directly to the President and oversaw summer youth basketball programs in New York and Connecticut.  She later founded Pro Management Plus, a company that specializes in event management, marketing and promotions for professional athletes and nonprofit organizations in the New York Tri-State area.

Ms. Alpert earned a BA degree from Providence College and an MA in Physical Education and Sports Management from Adelphi University.  Prior to joining the Manhattanville College faculty, Ms. Alpert was an adjunct professor at New York University's School of Continuing Education where she taught event marketing.

Art Berke
MSBM 5017 – Sport Communications

Mr. Berke is the Chief Operating Officer of the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center.  Prior to joining the Center in 2007, he was Vice President of Communications for the Sports Illustrated franchise.  In addition to his communications duties, he was the Senior Production Executive for three SI-branded network primetime specials--20th Century Sports Awards (CBS), Sportsman of the Year 2000 (CBS) and Night of Champions (NBC)--as well as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year Show 2002 (Fox), an afternoon telecast.

Prior to joining SI, Mr. Berke served as Director of Sports and Prime Time Sales Development for the ABC Television Network; was the primary publicist for such ABC Sports series as “Wide World of Sports,” “Monday Night Football,” and Howard Cosell’s “SportsBeat”; and was Associate Director of Information in the office of Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn, where he was also the editor of the Official World Series Program in 1978 and 1979.  He has authored five books on sports and was the editor-in-chief of an award-winning sports encyclopedia for children.

Mr. Berke is a graduate of Indiana University and is on the Senior Advisory Board of the Sports and Entertainment Academy within the University’s Kelley School of Business MBA Program.  Besides Manhattanville, his teaching experience includes being an adjunct professor for Sports Public Relations at New York University.

Joseph R. D'Agostin
MSBM-5003 - Economics & Financial Aspects of Sport

Mr. D'Agostin has over 40 years of acounting experience in both the corporate and Government sectors where he recently retired after 21 years with the Internal Revenue Service as a compliance auditor.  His industry experiece mostly covered the media, banking and stock brokerage industries.  He has taught various accounting and internal control courses at Arthur Andersen & Co. , the IRS and Fairfield University.

Mr. D'Agostin earned a BBA in Accounting from Fairfield University and an MBA in Corporate Finance from NYU.

Vince Gennaro

MSBM 5002 - Managing Sport Strategically

Mr. Gennaro is a consultant to several Major League Baseball teams and the author of Diamond Dollars:  The Economics of Winning in Baseball. He has been named Executive Director of the Manhattanville Sports Analytic Institute. In his thirty-year business career, he served as CEO of a public company, President of a billion-dollar division of PepsiCo, and owner of a women’s pro basketball team His innovative analysis of the business and economics of baseball has been the subject of articles and commentary in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes.com and CNN Money. He has also written for Yahoo! Sports, and The Hardball Times, and is a frequent guest commentator on CNBC-TV. Vince is a member of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Women’s Sports Foundation.

Mr. Gennaro earned his MBA from the University of Chicago.


Mark J. Jeffers

Mr. Jeffers is currently President, MAR$AR Sports & Entertainment LLC, a global consulting, and distribution company.  Previously, he held senior management positions at Giles Communications, Ascent Media Group, Viacom Video Services (part of CBS, Inc.), ORAD, and NBC Universal.  His professional activities include being local host and producer of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, a columnist for Sport & Technology, and co-host of the weekly radio program, “The Clubhouse.”

Mr. Jeffers earned an MS degree in Communication Arts at the College of New Rochelle, and a BS/BA in Television-Radio/Sociology from Syracuse University.  Besides teaching at Manhattanville, Mr. Jeffers has been an adjunct professor in the graduate programs in Communication Arts at Iona College and the College of New Rochelle.

Heather Kerner
MSBM 5010 – Research Methods

Ms. Kerner is Group Director of Research for Octagon, working with such clients as Coca-Cola, IBM, NCAA, Madison Square Garden and MLB.  She previously was a moderator with the Qualitative Research Division of TNS, the second largest global market intelligence company.

Ms. Kerner has a BA in International Business from Lehigh University and has been professionally trained in qualitative research at the RIVA Training Institute for moderator training.

Patrick Lyons
MSBM 5006 – Leading Sport Organizations

Mr. Lyons is currently the Athletic Director at Iona College. a position he has held since 2004.  As an undergraduate, Mr. Lyons was a two-sport standout at Iona and received Joseph O’Connell Award in his senior year as Iona’s outstanding student-athlete.  In 1999, he earned his master’s degree in teaching from Iona, and in 2004, he completed the MBA program at the Iona’s Hagan School of Business.

Besides teaching at Manhattanville, Mr. Lyons has also serve as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at Iona.  He is chair of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and also serves on the football committee of the Conference.  He is a member of the NCAA’s men’s water polo committee as well as of the Executive Committee of the Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision.

Paul Moscarello 
MSBM 5005 - Legal and Ethical Considerations in Sports Business Management

Mr. Moscarello and his brother, are the co- founders (1992) of the company that invents, patents and markets Vew-Do™ brand  balance training devices and associated lifestyle products, the preference of professional athletes, trainers, and sports enthusiasts around the world. Having grown in conjunction with the explosion in the snowboarding industry, their client list has expanded to include several NFL, NHL, and MLB teams, the US Olympic Training Facility, colleges with nationally ranked sports programs, and many more.  The brand is also distributed internationally in Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Moscarello remains a small business (legal entity) consultant, assisting clients privately or in his capacity as an officer in a 501(c)(3) corporation. His primary service concerns the complexity of business compliance to governmental legal standards and law, knowledge obtained in part during fifteen years at the world’s largest defense contractor, Lockheed Martin and his MBA in International Business from Long Island University ’95.

Much of his world view however, can be attributed to earlier pursuits in Anthropology (Fordham University BA ‘76) and world history (Manhattanville College MAT/History ’78).

Walter Recher

Mr. Recher is managing partner of Diamond Sports Business Education Group, a sports career and professional development services firm. He has held senior management positions with a number of high-growth corporations and start-up companies, including SmallBall Marketing, University of Phoenix, In-Touch Media, On-Ramp Associates, MCI, Cablevision, and Izod LaCoste. Mr. Recher  has provided marketing and strategic management consulting services for corporations, entrepreneurs, education institutions, business organizations and not for profits. Mr. Recher earned his bachelors degree in Psychology from Oswego State University, and MBA from Fordham University Graduate School of Business.

Martin J. Rotberg
MSBM 5002 – Managing Sport Businesses Strategically

Mr. Rotberg received his BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and Advertising, from Northeastern University, then an MBA from Boston College.

Besides teaching at Manhattanville, Mr. Rotberg is also an adjunct professor at West Virginia University in Integrated Marketing Communications (Online).
 
His business experience includes sales and marketing with for Velocity Sports and Entertainment, Sponsorship Sales and Marketing for the PBS Sponsorship Group/WNET, and Promotion Services at Bristol Myers-Squibb. Within sports organizations, he has held executive positions with IMG, World Championship Tennis, the North American Soccer League, and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  Currently, he is a consultant in the Sports/Entertainment field focused on business development/sponsorship strategy/sales.

William G. Stopper
MSBM 5023 – Leading Change

William Stopper is a consultant and former HR executive at IBM.  Besides teaching in the MS programs in International Management and Human Resources, he is an academic advisor on thesis projects and coordinator for accreditation of the School’s business programs.  He earned his B.A. degree in English from St. Mary’s College of California and holds an MBA degree from the University of Connecticut.

Robert M. (Bob) Tufts
MSBM 5002 - Managing Sport Business Strategically

Bob Tufts is a former major league baseball player with a degree in economics from Princeton University, an MBA from Columbia University and over twenty years of experience working on Wall Street who has also lectured at major universities and coached and advised numerous young students and athletes.

Mr. Tufts received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University in 1977. His first career upon graduation was as a professional baseball player. Bob was selected in the twelfth round of the 1977 free agent draft by the San Francisco Giants. He appeared in the major leagues as a relief pitcher with the Giants in 1981 and the Kansas City Royals in 1982 and 1983.

Upon retirement from baseball, he attended Columbia University School of Business Administration and received an MBA in finance in 1986. He worked in the futures and foreign exchange areas and international equities division of several major firms during his twenty-two year career on Wall Street. 

He is a board member of Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel, has served as a board member, advisory board member and volunteer for Winning Beyond Winning, which conducts sports clinics and lifeskills program for teenagers on Long Island. He was also a past President of the New York State chapter of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association and has been active in their baseball clinics and charitable efforts.

Barry Wilner

MSBM 5017 - Sport Communication

Barry Wilner has been a newsman for The Associated Press since 1976. He has covered 21 Super Bowls, 10 Olympics, eight World Cups, the Stanley Cup finals, major tennis and golf events and championship fights. He is the lead NFL writer and editor for the AP. Mr. Wilner is also an author, and has written 24 books, including ``They Changed the Game,'' a look at athletes and sportsmen in the 20th century and their impact on their sport and on society; ``Girls Rule!'' about the role of women in sports; ``Gridiron Glory,'' a history of the Army-Navy football game; ``Football Feuds,'' a look at prominent college football rivalries; and ``Harvard Beats Yale 29-29,'' the greatest comebacks in sports history. In addition, Mr. Wilner has been a regular contributor to a variety or publications, including SportBusiness International, Inside Sports and Lindy's Sports Previews.
