Elizabeth Alexander is the author of four books of poems, The Venus Hottentot, Body of Life, Antebellum Dream Book, and American Sublime, which was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize.  A scholar of African-American literature and culture, she published a collection of essays, The Black Interior.  She is a recipient of numerous awards including the 2007 Jackson Prize for Poetry awarded by Poets & Writers.

Jim Shepard is the author of six novels, most recently Project X, as well as three story collections, including Like You’d Understand, Anyway, which was nominated for the National Book Award and won the 2008 Story Prize. His short fiction has appeared in Harper’s, McSweeney’s, The Paris Review, Granta, and the New Yorker.

Enter Inkwell’s Poetry & Fiction Writing Competitions!

Inkwell is the award-winning literary journal published semi-annually by Manhattanville College. Dedicated to publishing high quality prose and poetry, Inkwell features the work of established and emerging writers. Each year, Inkwell sponsors competitions in poetry and fiction judged by renowned authors.
The deadline for our Annual Competitions is October 30, 2008.  Fiction Prize: $1,500 plus publication.  Poetry Prize: $1,000 plus publication.  Poetry Judge: Major Jackson.  Fiction Judge: Brian Morton.  See www.inkwelljournal.org for guidelines.
